About the Meeting
ACCOMMODATIONS AND HOTEL INFORMATION
The Hotel Pontchartrain will be the location for the 2002 International Topical Meeting on Probabilistic Safety Assessment. All technical sessions and luncheons will take place at the conference hotel.

Average October temperatures range from a high of 64F to a low of 41F. Please be prepared by bringing the appropriate fall clothing, as well as some lighter clothing in case we have unusually warm weather.
 
The hotel is holding rooms at a conference rate of $109 (plus applicable taxes) for single and double occupany until September 6, 2002. Valet parking is available at the hotel for $16/day.

CROSSING THE BORDER
Conference attendees wishing to visit Windsor, Canada or those coming to the US from Canada will need to show proof of citizenship - either a birth certificate or passport. An additional piece of photo identification, such as a driver's license, will also be required.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Historical landmarks, colorful shops, cozy restaraunts, and architectural delights are all within walking distance of the 13 People Mover stations. The fare is only $0.50 per ride with trains arriving every 4-5 minutes. Hours of operation are: M-Th: 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Sat: 9:00 a.m. to Midnight, Sun: Noon to 8:00 p.m.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
The Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) is approximately 35 minutes southwest of Detroit. Detroit City Airport, served by Pro-Air Airlines, is located 10 minutes from downtown Detroit.

The Pontchartrain does not provide a shuttle service. Conference attendees wishing to book taxi or shuttle reservations should do so directly with the local service of interest. Shuttle rates average $12-$15 per person each way, taxis range between $32-$58. Please call to verify rates.

The vivid Michigan fall colors and crisp air are perfect for wandering through Greenfield Village. Buildings from all parts of the nation have been moved to Greenfield Village. Buildings include the homes of Noah Webster, the Wright brothers, and Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison's Menlo Park laboratory. The boyhood farmstead of Harvey Firestone operates as a working 1880s farm. Craft and trade demonstrations include blacksmithing, glass blowing, pottery, printing and tinsmithing. Horse drawn carriage and train rides are available.

Motown Museum and Detroit Cultural Center

The sound of Motown originated in the building now housing the Motown Historical Museum. Entertainers such as Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and the Supremes, and Stevie Wonder got their start here under Berry Gordy. The galleries contain a variety of musical instruments, photographs, artifacts and the original Studio A.

Detroit Institute of Art (DIA), traces the development of art from ancient to modern times. University of Michigan Reactor Tour & Reception

Visit the Phoenix Memorial Laboratory, housing the Ford Nuclear Reactor a two-megawatt pool research reactor at the University of Michigan. The evening will also include hors d'oeuvres and the music of the North Campus carillon. Indentification and proof of citizenship required.
